Tafseer Imdad-ul-Karam, volume 1, sura 3, verse 191, note 137:
 |
Imam Baydawi writes, “Serious contemplation and study of the universe is the best form of worship for the saying of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) is that ‘there is no worship on par with serious contemplation’" (Tafsir Baydawi). Unfortunately, Muslims today have all but neglected this exalted type of worship; the non-Muslims claim to have landed on the moon, whilst Muslims on earth are still wrangling and arguing over the sight of it on Eid.
Up until the time when Muslims were active in the fields of science and research, studying the universe and its resources they presented many new inventions to the world. The Muslims were pioneers in the fields of technology, biology, alchemy, optics, philosophy, and mathematics, to name but a few. They acted upon the Qur’anic order to contemplate upon the creations, and thus were held in high esteem by all. But the day Muslims began neglecting the importance of such knowledge they became oppressed and disgraced. |
