In the Daily Jang London of Thursday 17 May 2007, the popular Urdu columnist Mansoor Afaq has written an appraisal of Tafseer Imdad-ul-Karam, the commentary of the holy Qur’an written in the United Kingdom by Shaykh M I H Pirzada. In his column titled Mahasin-e Imdad-ul-Karam (merits of Imdad-ul-Karam), Mansoor Afaq shed light not only on the commentary of the holy Qur’an but also on the qualities of and his experiences with Shaykh M I H Pirzada. The following remarks have been excerpted from his column: “I had known Imdad Hussain Pirzada for some years but during that time I had never been acquainted with Imdad Hussain Pirzada, the writer and the litterateur. I had thought that he was a good scholar and an exceptional head of a Muslim school and educational establishment. Some time ago, I had the opportunity to visit his institution, Jamia Al-Karam, and there I learned that Imdad Hussain Pirzada possesses a very important quality of being a powerful and skilled writer in the Urdu language, an Urdu Litterateur. “Only a few individuals have been blessed with the quality of writing on religious issues and their writing possessing the beauty of literary eloquence. Such names include Abul-Kalam Azad, Abdul Majid Daryabadi, Ghulam Ahmad Parvez and Shaykh Muhammad Karam Shah al-Azhari. Shaykh Muhammad Karam Shah al-Azhari was also a great Sufi and his Tafsir Zia al-Qur’an and Sirat Zia al-Nabi have become increasingly popular winning literary awards. Imdad Hussain Pirzada is from amongst his students. “In my opinion, Tafseer Imdad-ul-Karam is a very important commentary of the Qur’an written in this modern West. It has been written whilst keeping the issues of the twenty first century in mind. Difficult issues have been written in very simple terms and a person becomes amazed thinking to himself; could such a complex issue really be written in such simple words! “Imdad Hussain Pirzada is an established teacher, speaker and author. His books and publications are taught in mosques and centres of learning throughout the country in particular his books on Arabic etymology and syntax. Despite his various endeavours, it is not possible to ignore his literary excellence and quality of writing. “In his chest there is the heart of a Sufi, who is filled with everlasting love for all and his love is truly for all, there is no stranger to him in this world. He has never fallen into differences due to language, colour and generations. He is an individual from amongst those who love others and in whose chests there are not stones but real hearts; from whose lips, not flowers but rays of morning light and hope emerge. He is a person who has never wasted his time. He is not lost in the miseries of the past nor in the illusions of the future, rather, he lives in the present. Imdad Hussain Pirzada is truly a pure and humble person, to whom Allah (most high) has granted much wisdom and knowledge. May Allah (most high) grant him a long and healthy life. Amin. “A task that seems daunting, an action that seems difficult, a path that one never walked on, all of these become easy and the destination itself comes closer to the seeker by connecting with people like Imdad Hussain Pirzada.” In order to read the full article by Mansoor Afaq as it appeared in the Daily Jang London please click on the image above.
