Outstanding Ofsted report on the Al-Karam Secondary School ______________
Jamia Al-Karam’s Al-Karam Secondary School, established in April 1995, has continuously been moving from strength to strength providing a high standard of education in an Islamic atmosphere for young Muslim boys of the United Kingdom. In its short history, the school has remained well above the national average in the GCSE results, moreover, it has taken first position in the entire county of Nottinghamshire three times in the GCSE league tables. As a result, the school was commended in the House of Commons during a debate on Integration and Cohesion on 17 April 2007 which was recorded in Hansard (see News Report: 08/05/2007). On 7 and 8 November 2007, the school was inspected by Ofsted (the Office for Standards in Education) under section 162A of the Education Act 2002, who published the report of their findings and judgements on 30 November 2007. Some of the comments of Ofsted from their report are as follows: “This is a good school where students achieve high academic standards. They make good progress, because the quality of teaching is consistently effective. The curriculum is broad and balanced and matches students’ interests and aspirations. They are well cared for and supported in a culture of high expectations and mutual respect.” “The quality of teaching and assessment is good and is a significant contributing factor to the good progress that students are making in their learning. Standards in national tests at the end of Key Stage 3 in English, mathematics and science at expected levels are excellent taking account of students’ prior attainments. GCSE results are also outstanding … Examination results are exceptional as a result of consistently good teaching … Results also reflect the high expectations that the school has of them and the commitment of teachers which is very apparent in their teaching and support of students. The ethos in lessons is one of achievement, which is aided by students’ respect for their teachers and contributes significantly to their exemplary attitudes to learning.” “The school’s provision for students’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is good. It matches the school’s ethos. Students enjoy their education because teaching is consistently good. Attendance rates are high and students’ behaviour is outstanding. They help each other, showing respect for their teachers, their school and their faith. They are given opportunities to develop self-esteem and confidence.” All students and staff are congratulated upon their hard work and this exceptional report. May Allah (most high) grant Jamia Al-Karam further success in its mission to serve the Muslims and the wider society. Amin.
