Leading Scholars from India and Bangladesh visit Jamia Al-Karam ______________ Jamia Al-Karam Correspondent
Jamia Al-Karam in Retford, Nottinghamshire, had the unique opportunity of hosting two leading scholars from the Indian Subcontinent on Wednesday 20 September 2006. Dr Sayyid Irshad Ahmad al-Bukhari from Bangladesh as well as Mufti Shams al-Huda al-Misbahi from Jamia Ashrafiyya of Mubarakpur in India. The guests were accompanied by the Imam of Manchester Central Mosque Victoria Park and Chair of the Al-Karam Scholar’s Association (AKSA), Imam Muhammad Arshad al-Misbahi. The Founder and Principal of Jamia Al-Karam, Shaykh M I H Pirzada, received the honourable guests and provided a detailed tour of the institution. All areas of the campus were visited including the teaching and academic facilities, boarding and catering faculties, and the guest and onsite residence blocks. Following the tour, the guests offered the zuhr prayer at Jamia Al-Karam’s mosque alongside the students of Higher Education and pupils of the Secondary School. A conference was organised after the zuhr prayer with the students of Higher Education (Dars Nizami). Students recited verses from the glorious Qur’an, sang odes in praise of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). Dr Sayyid Irshad Ahmad al-Bukhari addressed the gathering and whilst discussing the challenges the Muslims are facing stated, “There are two distinct challenges the Muslims face. On the one hand, there is the onslaught of anti-Islam propaganda and on the other side there is the grave problem created by those people who come to the forefront and claim to represent Islam and the Muslims, they in reality do not represent Islam nor the Muslims. Voices of terrorism and extremism are not the true voices of Islam.” Imam Muhammad Arshad al-Misbahi advised the students of the importance of seeking knowledge and how this importance has increased manifold in today’s world where the Muslims are lacking in this regard. Mufti Shams al-Huda al-Misbahi, who has been teaching and lecturing on Islamic Studies and Arabic Language for over twenty three years, in his address remarked, “After seeing this institution and the work being carried out here, I find myself dreaming as I cannot believe that there exists such a unique leading institution in Great Britain which has taken on board the need for education in the Muslim community and is representing the true image of Islam at a time when there exists gross misinterpretation and misrepresentation.” Shaykh M I H Pirzada then thanked the guests for visiting Jamia Al-Karam. After the short conference, lunch was served and a general discussion on the affairs of the institution continued. [ENDS]
